Overall and Presentation Specific Learning Objectives
Basic Echocardiography
Days Objectives:
• Acquire standard basic echocardiography views on simulated patients.
• Complete full point of care echocardiogram studies after each required view is learned.
• Operate standard point of care ultrasound machines and describe how to perform basic adjustments on machines along with patient maneuvers in order to optimize images.
8:00 – 9:00
Review Lecture
Basic Bedside Echocardiography Views and Interpretation
Review Lecture Objectives:
• Recognize point of care ultrasound as a goal-directed examination focused on answering straightforward clinical questions at bedside.
• Describe how to acquire basic views required for point of care echocardiography, including parasternal long and short axis views, apical 4 chamber view, subcostal 4 chamber view and IVC long axis view.
• Interpret images acquired at the bedside, focusing on pathologies commonly encountered in critically ill patients.
15:50 – 16:30
Echo Case Review
Closing Lecture Objectives:
• Interpret echocardiograms depicting common pathologies in critically ill patients.
• Devise management plans based on pathologies depicted.

Lung, Vascular and Abdominal
Days Objectives:
• Operate and manipulate probes to acquire standard views for thoracic, abdominal, and lower limb DVT diagnostic ultrasound.
• Acquire standard views and perform ultrasound assisted procedures such as vascular access, lumbar puncture, thoracentesis, and paracentesis
• Independently perform diagnostic thoracic ultrasound, focused abdominal, and focused vascular ultrasound.
• Describe the ultrasound machine and how to optimize images utilizing the machine and patient maneuvers.
8:00 – 9:00
Review Lectures
Lung/Pleura, Limited Abdomen, Vascular Access and Deep Venous Thrombosis
Review Lecture Objectives:
• Recognize point of care ultrasound as a goal-directed examination focused on answering straightforward clinical questions at bedside.
• Describe how to acquire basic views required for point of care body ultrasound in the chest, abdomen and lower limb vessels.
• Briefly review material from pre-course online lectures.
15:50 – 16:30
Body Ultrasound Case Review
Closing Lecture Objectives:
• Interpret thoracic, abdominal, and lower limb vessels images depicting common pathologies in critically ill patients.
• Formulate differential diagnoses based on images and case histories provided.
• Formulate a “plan-of-action” for further management, including further imaging.
• Devise management plans based on some pathologies depicted.
